Approximately fifty vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Police state they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they reported.
Officers then found many other marked cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Police report initial examinations show the substance was most likely human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; officials are presently not informed of any injuries in association with the event," they commented.
City officials stated they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the community for details.
An important political figure stated the attack made him stunned and required to be solved quickly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on online, recalling the killing of nine people by a gunman targeting people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
