Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL team.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant boost to the team's forward line. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be gathering momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
