More than 20 Olympic champions, trainers and other international athletes have put their names to a appeal urging a stop to the death penalty of a boxing champion and trainer, who is facing execution in the nation.

Growing Global Anger

Amidst growing global condemnation over Iran’s escalating use of capital punishment as a tool of repression, the forcefully phrased statement censures the Iranian regime's verdict to confirm the execution order of the athlete.

The boxer, three decades old, from Mashhad in the northeastern region, was arrested for participating in national uprisings in two thousand nineteen and indicted of supporting an opposition group. He has spent five years in incarceration, where he has been mistreated and confined in seclusion.

History of Executing Competitors
