Six Suspects Apprehended After €12M Robbery on Precious Metals Facility in the French Republic
Six armed perpetrators carrying assault rifles and handguns employed explosives to force entry into a gold treatment facility located in Lyon, slightly injuring five employees during what appears to be the newest significant daytime heist to occur in the nation.
The bold operation took place on the afternoon of Thursday, with police forces swiftly apprehending the alleged criminals and securing the stolen items estimated to be worth €12 million (£10.5M), as stated by authorities.
Five staff members of the precious metals facility sustained minor injuries due to the explosion, and three employees required hospital checks for assessment, according to regional authorities. Twenty-eight employees were at the location when the perpetrators raided.
Those arrested, thought to be career criminals, were taken into custody a brief time later in the neighboring community of the town of Vénissieux, authorities revealed.
A female accomplice involved in the robbery was taken into custody as well, according to law enforcement.
“Six people who utilized explosives in a raid against a precious metals company in the Lyon area were caught in the act,” France's security official stated online, praising officers for their “firmness, rapid response and command”.
Military-style weapons, pistols and explosive materials were recovered as well.
The heist took place as French police on that Thursday arrested five more suspects, including a primary suspect, in relation to this month's brazen raid on the Louvre museum.
Many investigative personnel have been searching for four robbers who used a vehicle with a hydraulic lift and cutting tools to break into an upper-level exhibition space at the prestigious institution on October 19th, making off with ornaments assessed at around 88 million euros.
In a different significant robbery, thieves last month broke into the Parisian museum of natural history, stealing gold samples estimated at exceeding $1M. A young Chinese female was apprehended in the current month in the city of Barcelona in relation to the burglary, prosecutors stated.
This series of robberies has sparked worry in France regarding inadequate security measures at museums and various establishments containing precious artifacts.
