The Manager's Stance on Celtic

McKenna referred to Celtic as "an enormous football club" but stressed he is "deeply involved" of a "extensive rebuilding" with the Championship side.

The mid-thirties assumed control of Portman Road in recent years and led them to the English top flight with consecutive elevations, but they won just a handful of victories last season as they were demoted back to the Championship and they presently occupy 12th in England's second tier.

"I have not had any of those discussions," the London-born former Northern Ireland youth international said when asked about being on Celtic's shortlist.

"It's not something I have given any thought to, or where any part of my concentration is this week.

"I have a special job here at a remarkable club. And we're at a really important stage of the season. Anything outside of that hasn't reached my awareness."

Context and Contractual Aspects

Reports indicate that McKenna would be willing to talk to the Scottish side given his childhood support.

"During youth, we all have our affinities," he said when questioned about these. "I don't think all people has to publicly and announce what they were, but of course it's a really big football club."

McKenna agreed to a new multi-year deal in 2024 and was asked about his reported buyout clause.

"In every manager's contract, there are things," he responded. "I'm unaware what mine are and, if I did, I wouldn't tell you regardless!

"I tackle this role like I'll be Town's coach forever. I understand that's not always going to be the situation, but I'll always give maximum effort as long as I remain in position."

The Welsh Coach's Position

Bellamy represented Celtic on temporary transfer from Newcastle United in 2005, but the former Wales striker is inclined to complete the current World Cup campaign, a position that would effectively rule out the 46-year-old from immediately taking the Glasgow position.

Wales are currently third in their World Cup group behind group toppers the Red Devils and runners-up North Macedonia.

Wins over the minnows and their rivals in next month would secure their position in the final qualifying round, but they are all but guaranteed of making those, due to a productive Nations League performance, even if they not end up Group J runners-up.

Considering his present stance, Bellamy, whose contract concludes after the European Championship, would not be available until after the play-offs at the minimum.
